A darts event in Huddersfield featuring world No1 Michael van Gerwen has been postponed until September.

The inaugural Rhubarb Huddersfield Darts Masters featuring Dutch sensation van Gerwen, World Grand Prix champion Robert Thornton, Australian icon Simon Whitlock and fast-throwing Vincent van der Voort was due to take place at Huddersfield Leisure Centre on March 18.

However, the date has had to be changed after a fixture clash involving some of the players. The event will now take place on September 22.

Chris Murphy, of promoters MODUS Sports Events, said: “There was an unexpected scheduling clash for some of the players that was unavoidable and unforeseen. They had professional commitments, which they are contractually obliged to fulfil.

“However, due to the high demand for tickets, we were determined to find a new date for the event and keep the same high quality line-up.

“Huddersfield is my home town and I know that there is a fantastic appetite for darts so I was very reluctant to have to cancel the event and am delighted that we have been able to find a new confirmed date that works for everyone.”

The event will be the first of its kind at the new leisure centre. It will include the full experience as seen on TV with big screens, walk-ons, music and professional stage.
