A PUB with one of the Yorkshire Ripper’s surviving victims as a regular, made a gaffe when they introduced a guest ale inappropriately named Ripper.

The ale – named after Victorian murderer Jack the Ripper – was about to go on sale during a beer festival at the Three Hulats in Leeds.

Local Marcella Claxton survived an attack by Yorkshire Ripper, Peter Sutcliffe, in 1976 and Richard McCann, who also lives locally, is the son of Wilma McCann, who was Sutcliffe’s first victim when he murdered her in 1975.

Her body was found near her home on a recreation ground about a mile from the pub.

Luckily the eagle-eyed manager, Graham Church, spotted the name and realised it was bound to cause serious offence.

Quick-thinking Graham hastily had new pump clips written up and renamed the ale Jack and the Beanstalk.

A pub source, who wished to remain unnamed said: “We didn’t think it was in the best of tastes because one of our customers survived an attack by the Yorkshire Ripper.”
