HUNDREDS of art lovers descended on Marsden at the weekend for the Ripple Four Art Fair.

The free event at the Marsden Mechanics' Hall in Peel Street began on Saturday and will close today at 5pm.

It features the work of 25 local and national artists exhibiting sculptures, ceramics, jewellery, painting, photography and textiles.

Ripple, a non-profit-making show, started four years ago and was the idea of sculptor John Burnley and artist Mark Longbottom.

Artists exhibiting include Alison Campbell, Chris Cyprus, Sue Davis, Paul Galagher, Karen Howarth, Mick Kirby- Geddes, Maria Lau, Mike Lees, Ian Marsh, Reana McGrath, Ian McKay, Viv Owen, Roger Bygott, Jenny Parkin, Anne Pennington, Paul Stone, Charles Turner, Rachel Ward, Sally Ann Willow and Ali White.

The event's major sponsors are Andel Ltd and Pollution Prevention Ltd.

Organisers are pleased with how well the exhibition has been received.

This year's event has attracted a record number of art lovers from across the country.

It is expected that the amount raised from sales of the pieces will exceed last year's total of £4,500.
