HUDDERSFIELD’S Ashford Campbell has pop star dreams.
The singer is hoping to be part of the UK’s next biggest boyband.
And yesterday Ashford , of The Risk, came ‘face to face’ with members of the world’s current biggest boyband One Direction.
Though for Ashford, formerly of Lowerhouses and an ex-Huddersfield Grammar School pupil, it was a waxwork of the 1D members he faced during a visit to Madame Tussauds.
Ashford entered The Risk during his time on The X Factor.
The band was formed from solo singers including Ashford during the course of the series and they’re about to release their second single, called Peaches and Cream.
The Risk, who like chart-toppers One Direction were put together during a series of The X Factor, release their new single in August and hope to follow One Direction into the charts.
Singer Andy Merry said: “One Direction were in The X Factor the year before us, and now they’re absolutely huge.
“We’ve just announced our brand new single and tour – this time next year it could be us launching wax figures here.”
Ashford has been gigging with The Risk since the 2011 X Factor aired.
He auditioned originally as a solo artist, making it through the early stages, and then joined the band Nu-Vibe, put together by the judges.
He was then invited by The Risk to join their group after one of their original members quit.
The striker, formerly on Manchester United’s books, now plays with Cardiff City who clinched promotion into the Premier League at the end of last season.
