THEY went quackers in Holmfirth this weekend!

The town turned yellow for the annual duck race.

Thousands of yellow plastic ducks were poured into the River Holme.

The Holmfirth Duck Race and Gala is organised annually by Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table and is its biggest fundraiser so that the group can help out good causes.

Chairman Andrew Spencer said it had been an excellent day.

"This is the 22nd year and it is still going strong so people know this as a permanent fixture on the calendar."

Mr Spencer said the thousands of pounds raised through the sale of £1 ducks for the race would help people across Huddersfield.

He added: "It helps us to help good causes and give needy people a hand.

"We can make a real difference. It goes towards things like pensioners' parties, Christmas hampers and helping people out.

"We are also trying to help the Forget-Me-Not-Trust with their plans for a new hospice."

Huddersfield Giants players turned up to support the event, with Brad Drew starting the race.

The winners were as follows:

First Prize, £1000 - 7251

Second Prize, £200 - 2473

Third Prize, £100 - 6317
