A ROAD which has attracted complaints about its state is to be completely resurfaced.

Kirklees Council officials hope the news will be welcomed by residents and drivers on Cowlersley Lane, Cowlersley, which runs from Manchester Road at Milnsbridge to Linthwaite.

But the work will close the road at times.

The road is in a very poor state after numerous trenches and holes were dug in it by utility companies over the last two years.

Resurfacing was partially finished last year, from Richmond Court up to Slantgate at Linthwaite.

But the work was delayed to allow gas company Transco to complete work.

The new resurfacing will start on August 9 and take about three weeks.

It is being done in the school holidays - when traffic is usually light - as the work will mean the road has to be closed between 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Diversion routes will be signed.

The scheme will cost about £75,000.

Access to businesses and homes will be open as usual, but a minibus shuttle will replace bus services which normally run through the area.
