A £110,000 scheme to improve a road junction at Highburton starts next Monday.

Kirklees Council highways officials said they wanted to reduce accidents that could happen because of new homes in the village.

New traffic lights, together with an anti-skidding surface, will be installed at the junction of Penistone Road with Far Dene Road.

To further improve safety a bus stop is being moved and pedestrian crossing facilities, with tactile paving, are being introduced.

Kirklees will be doing the work with cash from Barratt Homes.

The company is developing properties on the former Southfield Mills on Burton Acres Lane.

A Kirklees spokes- woman said: "The work will be done outside peak hours, using temporary traffic signals.

"It will include some Sunday work, to minimise disruption."

It should take about 12 weeks to do the work.
