Drivers in and around Huddersfield face delays because of major roadworks schemes.

A busy road in Huddersfield is to shut for three weeks for bridge repairs - meaning diversions of several miles.

And motorists using the M62 will be confronted by a series of lane closures starting next week, with most of the work taking place overnight.

Kirklees Council have confirmed the bridge in Dalton Bank Road in Colnebridge will close for three weeks from Monday, November 2.

The closure is part of a £300,000 scheme that will strengthen and refurbish the bridge. Strengthening work began in late August but is now at the stage where a full closure is essential to complete the works.

The temporary road closure will begin at 6am on Monday.

Contractors will complete the strengthening and refurbishment of the bridge from above, which will then enable the removal of all existing barrier restrictions on the carriageway including the temporary traffic lights on the bridge so that the road can be fully reopened to two-way traffic.

Bridge strengthening works on Dalton Bank Road near Colnebridge.

Access to properties and businesses located either side of the bridge will not be affected by the temporary road closure and will be maintained at all times.

A diversion has been set up and signs will be in place to ensure the smooth flow of affected traffic throughout the closure.

Drivers travelling from Colnebridge will be asked to use Bog Green Lane, Upper Heaton Lane, Moor Top Road, Heaton Moor Road and Shop Lane.

Drivers heading from Dalton should use Dalton Bank Road, Nettleton Road, Briggate and Crossley Lane.

On the M62, the eastbound side of the carriageway will be fully closed between the slip roads at junction 25 Brighouse overnight on Monday for bridge works.

The westbound side of the carriageway will be fully closed between the slip roads at junction 25 overnight for four nights from Tuesday, again for bridge works.

The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am, and drivers will be able to follow clearly signed diversion routes.

Further work is to take place on the westbound carriageway between Junction 23 at Outlane and Junction 22 at Rishworth from Monday. Engineers will keep one lane open as they carry out resurfacing works for four nights. The closures will take place between 8pm and 6am.

At the Chain Bar junction, there is already narrow lanes and a 30mph speed limit in place because of major works and from Monday, the slip roads and roundabout at the junction will be reduced to a single lane overnight, between 7pm and 6am, for five nights.
