Police divers joined a murder hunt in Huddersfield today.
The underwater search team were called in to join the hunt for missing sex offender Robert Hind .
They were searching a stretch of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Milnsbridge hours after police hunting for Hind confirmed a man had been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The 46-year-old suspect remains in police custody.
Police are still at a house in Manchester Road, Cowlersley .
This morning's search of the canal was taking place alongside a search of the area by police with dogs.
Hind, also known as Dack, went missing on Wednesday from an address in Dewsbury and police had earlier warned that he could be a danger to the public, particularly children.
Supt Scott Wood, of West Yorkshire Police’s Protective Services Department, had earlier said: “It is imperative that we quickly ascertain the movements of Robert Edward Hind from December 11.
“There is the potential that he has come to harm and we are investigating every possible scenario as part of this ongoing enquiry.
“The man seen with Hind at Huddersfield Bus Station is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall, wearing black trainers, jeans, a black jacket with a white hooded jumper underneath and was carrying a blue rucksack.
He was also wearing a cream coloured beanie style hat.
“Hind himself was wearing black running shoes with white soles, dark coloured trousers, a khaki green coloured jacket and a dark beanie style hat.
“I would ask that anyone who recalls seeing the pair together at this time, or has seen either man since, to get in touch immediately.
“I believe the focus of this enquiry remains local and we need the public’s help to develop a full picture and bring about a swift conclusion to this matter.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 0800 555 111.”
