A burglar escaped with jewellery worth £11,000 in a raid on a Grange Moor firm.

The intruder smashed his way into the Rockwood Garden Centre through the roof early yesterday, causing £1,000 damage.

He then attacked a jewellery concession inside the Wakefield Road centre, smashing a cabinet to steal gold items.

Owner Paul Glover said: “He has caused a lot of mess both to the roof and to the display cabinets.

“It is not the first time we have fallen victim to thieves, having had our duck-house stolen and also metal fencing.”

The masked burglar was captured on CCTV between 1.25am and 2.06am. The footage is being studied by police.
