THE RSPCA is seeking volunteer fundraisers for a supermarket sweep.

Volunteers will be out with collecting boxes in Tesco stores during RSPCA week (April 29-May 5) and are appealing for help. Most of the collections will take place between Friday May 3 and Sunday May 5.

RSPCA fundraising manager Amy Smith said: “Our inspectors and animal welfare officers rescue around 140,000 animals every year, that’s about 2,700 a week.

“It costs us in excess of £127m per year to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home these animals or release as many as we can back into the wild and we rely entirely on donations.”

The RSPCA week raised almost £400,000 last year and Amy urges everyone to help.

“Collectors must be aged 18 or over,” she said.

Anyone wanting to volunteer can contact their local RSPCA branch by visiting www.rspca.org.uk/inyourarea, e-mail Amy on north_fundraising@rspca.org.uk or ring 0300 123 8827.
