DON'T tell the thieves what Santa's brought you this Christmas.

People often make a simple mistake when they've received lots of great gifts.

They take them out of the boxes and then leave the boxes next to their bins in full view of passers-by.

Russ says: "You often see large boxes left outside homes after Christmas that had expensive electrical items ranging from plasma TVs to ipods and mobile phones in them.

"Always collapse your boxes and pop them in your green bin or wrap them in a black bin liner.

"Don't advertise to thieves what was under your Christmas tree and is now in your home."

And he also urged people to not leave Christmas presents in their cars.

He adds: "Some people like to get all prepared before they go away at Christmas, even to the point of packing the car up the night before.

"Our message is simple. Don't do it!

"All it does is make the car a tempting target for thieves.

"They don't care that they are taking someone's Christmas presents.

"They'll just steal all they can."

Russ adds: "Talking of cars, we still have a problem with thieves breaking into homes to steal the keys for prestigious cars parked on the driveway outside."

Intruders broke into a home in Clayton West and Russ says the way they searched made it clear they were after the keys for a new Range Rover outside.

Luckily, they didn't find them.

But thieves were successful in Cleckheaton and Dewsbury.

A grey Honda V Tech estate worth £14,000 was taken from a house in Cleckheaton.

The car, registration number YE54 LWF, is still missing.

A black VW Golf worth £16,000 was stolen from a house in Dewsbury.

Its registration number was FA06 HYO.

It also remains missing.

Russ adds: "If you have a prestigious car, keep the keys with you day and night.

"And here's wishing everyone a crime-free and happy Christmas."
