FLY-TIPPERS were slammed after dumping a van full of household rubble at a beauty spot.

A white Ford Transit was seen to draw up on a track in woodland between Shaw Lane and Lower Hurst, Outlane, and deposit a load of builders' waste in the woodland.

A gas fire, bathroom fittings, glass and household waste, were seen strewn along the track, near Outlane golf course.

Mr Donald Horsfall, 73, of nearby Ray Gate, who was walking his dog along the track said: "I was staggered when I saw it. It was disgusting.

"It is not a pleasant thing to see when you are walking your dog.

"A stream runs through the area and there were a lot of plastic sacks filled with rubbish.

"You don't know what's in them and whether or not it will pollute the water."

Another resident said: "It was not just a little bit of rubbish. It was an absolutely massive amount. The van must have been packed full.

"I do not know how they knew where to go. It is not a place that most people would go to."

Kirklees council officials cleared up the rubbish and police are investigating.
