An underage teenager is in hospital after trying to flee a crash scene with a broken leg.
The 16-year-old was driving a Ford Ka when it hit the tree in Fleminghouse Lane, Almondbury, and span into a parked car. He tried to flee the scene into a nearby wooded area despite having a broken right leg.
But quick-action from Huddersfield firefighters – who arrived on the scene within minutes after the crash was reported at 5.15pm yesterday, enabled them to track down the teen and secure him on a board with a neck brace before bringing him back to a waiting ambulance.
He was then taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
His passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was also hurt in the crash and was taken by another ambulance to receive treatment for facial injuries.
Police were also called to the accident scene, which blocked the road and caused a build up of traffic.
