A MAN has appeared in court charged with murdering 20-year-old Sabira Alam.
Naveed Naeem, of New Street, Milnsbridge, was remanded in custody by magistrates in Dewsbury yesterday.
Miss Alam’s body was discovered on moorland at Buckstones, Scammonden, on Sunday.
Bearded Mr Naeem, 30, was told the case would be sent straight to Bradford Crown Court when he appeared at Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court.
Wearing a grey sweatshirt and dark trousers, he spoke only to confirm his name and personal details before sitting with his head bowed during the 10-minute preliminary hearing.
He was told that he was charged with murdering Miss Alam between April 1 and 5.
A postmortem has been carried out on the body of the former beauty student, who lived with her family at Vernon Avenue, Greenhead.
But police have yet to say how she died.
Family of the victim were in court to watch the proceedings.
Representing Naeem, solicitor Mike Sisson-Pell said the crown prosecution service only served papers on the day of the hearing and it was impractical at this stage to make a bail application.
He gave notice he intends to do so next week.
The case was adjourned until next Friday.
