Missing Denby Dale pensioner William Dunk has sadly been found dead.

It is thought 74-year-old Mr Dunk was hit by a train.

His body was spotted just before midnight by a driver of a train on the Huddersfield to Penistone line through Denby Dale.

Police confirmed this morning that the victim was Mr Dunk, who had vanished from his home in Denby Dale on Tuesday morning.

Det Insp Stephanie Wiseman, who had been leading the investigation, said: "Sadly, Mr Dunk was found dead close to the railway line.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and it does appear he has been hit by a train.

"Enquiries are now under way to determine exactly what has happened."

A huge search involving police and members of the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team had been running for the past two days.
