A CHARITY running canal boat trips for disabled people has received a brand new barge.
The Safe Anchor Trust, based at Shepley Bridge Marina, Mirfield, has taken delivery of the Safe Anchor Lady.
The Sheffield-built boat, which measures 54ft by 12ft, includes a wheelchair lift, cooker, educational facilities and a bow thruster to aid turning.
The Lady is the charity’s fifth boat to offer free journeys along the Calder and Hebble Navigation.
She will be on show at a series of open days at Shepley Bridge Marina, including on May 2 to 4.
Founded in 1995, the Safe Anchor Trust (SAT) provides waterway trips for special needs groups.
In 2006, the Trust carried more than 7,000 passengers. The Trust also runs a working boat to carry out repairs on the canal.
SAT member Peter Gummer said: “The new boat will make a tremendous difference because we can take more people with wheelchairs out.”
