BAKER Alex Millman thought nothing of jumping on a bike after a day’s hard work.

But for the Sainsbury’s Shorehead head baker, it meant cycling on an exercise bike for four hours in the supermarket’s foyer for charity.

Mr Millman had started work at 4.30am and worked until 1pm when he started his charity cycling feat.

He was joined by Dave Sowerby, whose wife Linda died at Kirkwood Hospice and who formed a 175 mile bike ride in her memory.

The duo raised £420 for Kirkwood Hospice ahead of their big bike ride on August 9 for the charity.

Alex, of Mirfield, said: “It was a long day, I was up at 3.30am and worked then got on the bike for four hours without stopping.

“But the whole point was to raise awareness of what Dave Sowerby has done in raising money for Kirkwood Hospice.

“His wife Linda died there and we’ve done the bike ride three times now.

“It’s 175 miles and is the furthest I’ve ever done in a day.”

Melanie Crossley from Kirkwood Hospice said: “Alex and Dave were cycling while we were collecting and they were great, they didn’t stop the whole time.

“It’s all for Linda’s Ride which will take place on August 9 the day after her birthday.”
