MADCAP farmer Kelly Armitage is home and dry after a 340-mile trip on an amphibious bike.

The young farmer from Salendine Nook arrived safely at the National Young Farmers’ AGM in Torquay, Devon, on April 23 after four days pedalling across land and water.

Kelly, 24, was one of 15 Yorkshire young farmers pedalling on the handmade amphibious contraption to raise awareness of young British farmers.

The ride also raised about £2,000 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.

The 15 travelled from Marsden to Torquay via Stoke-on-Trent on Britain’s waterways.

Kelly, a former Salendine Nook High School pupil, works in agriculture at Skipton Auction Market. She has her own sheep and pigs.

She is the development and marketing chairman for Yorkshire for the Young Farmers Clubs and a member of the Holme Valley Young Farmers.

Kelly said: “It was just brilliant. The weather was kind to us, we had a great laugh and it was a brilliant team building event.”
