A HAIRDRESSING salon held a 24-hour hour marathon to raise money for Kirkwood Hospice.

The super-long scissors session was held at the Gsix salon on Westgate in Honley from 8am on October 15 to 9am the following morning and has so far raised just under £800 for the charity.

Almost 40 people had their hair done and each gave at least £20 to the hospice.

Owner Martin Gledhill said: “I’ve been a hairdresser in Huddersfield for 20 years and so many of my clients have had friends or relatives who have been in the hospice and that’s why we decided to hold this event. Anyone could need the hospice.’’

Delighted customer Janet Parkins said: “I’d not heard of a salon doing a 24-hour marathon like this before and thought it was a wonderful idea. I came out with a perfect haircut and felt so confident.’’

Janet, of Netherton, works in the office at Almondbury High School and a colleague was so impressed she donated a bottle of whisky to the salon to use in future fundraising raffles.

The fund-raising is continuing with people having the chance to win a £100 hair voucher at the salon.

People pay £5 a ticket and once 50 have been sold, the winning ticket will be drawn out by staff from the Kirkwood Hospice shop on Westgate in Honley.
