HUDDERSFIELD could enjoy one of the warmest February weekends on record.

Temperatures are expected to be about 11° or 12°C (52-54°F) throughout much of Saturday and Sunday, some 8°C above the average for the month.

And local meteorologist Paul Stevens believes the balmy weather could last for several days.

“Warm winds from Spain will bring a sangria weekend to Huddersfield,” he said.

“High pressure has settled over Central Europe and this has blocked the passage of our normal winter storms.

“This will result in a breeze from north Africa and sunny Spain bringing temperatures as much as 7°C above the normal.

“The weather will remain settled for at least a week which is good news after the exceptionally wet January, which brought almost three times the normal rainfall.

“But we shouldn’t think winter is over just yet. It is possible wintry weather will be back later in the month or into early March.”
