But he won't be handing out presents.

Instead, he is hoping people will give him donations for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

From December 10, Santa will be touring the area on a special sleigh operated by Elland Rotary Club.

It is the first time the club has ever run a sleigh collection.

Usually, they hold Christmas bag-packing events at local supermarkets to raise cash for the club's chosen charities.

The sleigh - equipped with Christmas lights and speakers playing seasonal songs - has been built by Marshalls Construction of Elland. It is currently being stored at a farm in Stainland.

The sleigh will start its tour on December 10 in Halifax at Asda.

It will also visit Tesco and Sainsbury's stores in Halifax.

Then it will tour the streets of Elland, Greetland, Stainland and Barkisland until December 22, so that Rotary members can collect donations from residents.

Mr Garnett said: "We have not finalised where we will be on which days, because the weather influences things a lot.

"But people will hear us coming. It has cost us a lot of money to get the sleigh together, so we are hoping it will raise a lot of money too."
