Santa needs a helping hand in Huddersfield!

Organisers hope as many festive folk as possible will put their best foot forward in Huddersfield on Sunday when the annual Santa Dash returns.

Huddersfield Lions hope that the streets of the town centre will be filled with the sight of dozens of racing Father Christmases and reindeers when the start gun sounds.

Raising money for the organisation’s chosen charities, entrants of all ages are welcomed to join in the fun on the one-mile route, which will take people around the town centre.

Entry for the race, which will start at 10.30am outside Yates bar in King Street, with a warm up, costs £6 for adults and £3 for children under 11 who pre-register and includes a Santa suit or antlers and a red reindeer nose for children.

And this year it has been sponsored by Leeds Road-based RG Toyota and Bolster Moor Farm Shop, whose donations have meant that the entry fee will be reduced by half for all families, charities and companies who sign up.

Andrew Thornes, an official of Huddersfield Lions, said: “These sponsorships will allow so many more people to join in the fun and with so much or our costs covered every penny which entrants raise through their sponsors goes to their charities.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for charities - especially small, local ones.

“The Lions do all the organising, which may be beyond the resources of some smaller charities, freeing them up to focus on signing up runners.

“Whether you want to run, stroll or just saunter, the Santa Dash is a one-mile chase round the centre’s streets where lots of the shops are located.

“This is an excellent warm-up to the festive celebrations and gives a great chance to do some early Christmas shopping.”

Bacon sandwiches and coffee will be available and check in starts from 9.15am. There will be street entertainment from 9.45am before a warm up at 10.15am.

Costs for those entering on the day are £10 for adults and £5 for children.
