A LANDLORD is helping a young racer stay on track.
Stuart Gledhill of the Jack O’Mitre in Scammonden is sponsoring Joe Booth’s F1 stock car.
The landlord is happy to help the Slaithwaite 16-year-old in his first full season at the top level.
Stuart said: “I wanted to help Joe because I used to race with his father, Steve, years ago.”
Stuart, who finished fifth in the F1 stock car British Championships in 1986, added: “I’ve agreed to buy Joe’s tyres, so we’ll see how many he gets through in a season.”
K Steels in Lockwood and S Brigg and Sons Dairy Farm in Slaithwaite are also supporting the young racer.
Joe, a former Honley High School pupil, said: “I’d like to thank all my sponsors because I need every penny I can get to compete.”
Joe, who was Mini Stocks champion before moving up to F1 half-way through last season, began at Coventry on Saturday.
He said: “I’ve got a better car than last year so I hope to improve my performance.”
Joe, who is an apprentice at Meltham Mills Engineering, will compete in races every weekend until November.
