A HONLEY man has been offered the chance to work for a high-powered marketing agency in New York.

Colin Denby hopes to jet off to the USA this summer - but must first find a sponsor to help meet living expenses for the once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Colin, 19, said the prospect of working in The Big Apple was "scary, but exciting".

He said: "I had contacted marketing companies in the Yorkshire area, but they all prefer their employees to be graduates.

"Rather than go to university, I have opted to look for other methods of getting into marketing, advertising and public relations."

Colin said he had posted his CV on the monster.com website.

Within a couple of days, he was contacted by Pro-Marketing Group with an offer of an internship at the firm's New York office.

Colin hopes to travel to New York in June and spend up to 18 months with the company.

Pro-Marketing Group has offices across the USA, including ones in Long Island and Manhattan, New York.

Colin said: "I will learn valuable skills in all aspects of marketing, advertising and PR.

"In the beginning, I will be shadowing experienced people in the office and out visiting clients."

Colin attended Honley High School and Huddersfield New College.

He also represented the college at rugby and now plays for Huddersfield Sharks.

Colin said: "I'm currently on a year out until I figured out what I wanted to do for a career.

"Now I know what it is, I'm going to try my hardest to get it."
