YOUNGSTERS enjoyed a sports day organised by pupils at Newsome High School and Sports College.

Yasmin Hussain, 16, and pals Kathrin North and Clare Buckley organised the Four-way Champ Competition for feeder junior schools.

A total of 160 pupils aged nine and 10 from Newsome, Stile Common and South Crosland junior schools were jumbled up into teams representing South Africa, the USA, Japan and Brazil.

The children competed in athletics, football, rounders and basketball.

Medals were awarded to the winners of each event.

They were presented by members of Huddersfield Giants rugby league team and local boxers .

The girls organised the sports day after completing a Junior Sports Leaders award.

They were sponsored by Direct Golf and received cash help from Barclays Bank.
