A SCHOOL has pledged to serve up healthier food for its students.

Old-style menus are being thrown out of the window at Shelley College in a bid to get young people fitter.

The new regime is being brought in from September.

Catering manager Bev Stapleton said: "We are keen to support change in order to encourage students to take a balanced approach to healthy eating.

"What we offer at every counter will help them to reduce their consumption of fat, sugar and salt."

She added: "Some will be sad to see their daily chips and chocolate go.

"However, schools that have already introduced this kind of meal say, after some initial resistance, they have been warmly welcomed."
