TWO projects involving Huddersfield Art Gallery and local schools will soon be starting.
Children are doing work based on an exhibition of British sculpture at the gallery.
It will result in some of the pupils' work featuring in an exhibition at Huddersfield Art Gallery in November.
One project involves five local schools - Royds Hall High in Paddock, Cowlersley Primary, Crow Lane Junior Infant and Nursery, Paddock Junior Infant and Nursery and Spring Grove Junior Infant and Nursery in Springwood.
Children from each school will attend workshops in the gallery including discussion and practical activities based on the sculpture exhibition.
They will then be visited by a professional artist who will run workshops in each school, where pupils will make their own pieces of sculpture.
The scheme called Sculpture Chain was devised by Ami Hallgarth, the new Education and Outreach Officer at Huddersfield Art Gallery, in partnership with Andrew Heath-Beesley, in the School Effectiveness Service.
The most interesting sculptures will appear in the exhibition.
Huddersfield Art Gallery is also running Drawing with Wire workshops from October 15 to 22. The sessions are free and open to all Kirklees schools and suitable for ages 7 upwards.
