COLNE Valley High School is hoping to build sports facilities at its Linthwaite site.

Kirklees Schools Services Ltd has applied to Kirklees Council for permission for a sports hall and two outdoor all-weather pitches at the school on Gilroyd Lane.

The school does not have a sports complex.

The application has been submitted now because it is one of 10 school projects that Kirklees Council hopes to secure Government cash for.

A bid will be sent to the Government by the end of this month and a decision on whether cash has been granted should be received in September.

Andrew Jessop, Kirklees Schools Services project officer for the scheme, said the total cost was not yet known.

He added: "The hall will be the size of four badminton courts, although it will be marked up for other sports.

"The two outdoor pitches will be used for various sports."

Council planning officials have been given the power to decide whether to approve the scheme.

A decision is expected some time after March 11.
