PUPILS at Huddersfield Grammar School are helping a Huddersfield charity brighten the lives of children in Africa.

The school has donated a range of sports equipment to Lockwood-based charity the Christian African Relief Trust (Cart), which provides aid to poverty-stricken areas of Africa.

The sports equipment was collected by the school through the Active Kids scheme run by Sainsbury's supermarket.

Vouchers - given out to shoppers in the store - can be redeemed for a variety of sports equipment.

Parents and teachers at Huddersfield Grammar School collected enough vouchers to get 10 cricket bats, 12 cricket balls and 31 footballs for Cart.

A collection held at the school also raised £721 for Cart.

Cart representative Gordon Dawson is pictured receiving the equipment and cheque from pupils Joel Crossley, Annabelle Singh, Jonathan Beaumont, preparatory head boy Julian Hanreich and preparatory head girl Sara Webster.
