A TOP sci-fi film is to feature scenes shot in Dewsbury.

Film units are also expected to be working in Meltham later this month.

And they have already been shooting scenes in Dewsbury.

It’s for a film called “X Breed” which is being produced by a production company called Liquid Noise films.

They have had to get permission from Kirklees Council to use locations in the area.

A council spokesman said: “Filming is taking place at Dewsbury Town Hall for a Liquid Noise Film.

“It is a £3.5m science-fiction thriller called ‘X-Breed’ about soldiers being sent into an old underground military installation.

“The film company are using the Main Concert Hall in the Town Hall from Thursday through to next Wednesday.

“There will be a cast and crew of more than 70 working in the town.

“Location signs for the production have also appeared in Meltham Mills at the end of last week so they are filming in other locations too”.

The crews were also shooting scenes around Dewsbury Sports Centre.

Liquid Noise are based in the north east and in London and are in the process of filming a series of films, backed by millions of pounds from Hollywood companies.

In addition to X Breeds, there are believed to be a £26m fantasy adventure and a £35m biopic of Captain James Cook’s early life.

The movies, which began in production last autumn, are expected to feature an array of A-list actors and generate millions of pounds for the region’s economy from film related tourism.

The production team includes Newcastle actor Craig Conway, best selling novelist GP Taylor and North Yorkshire-raised producer and director duo Julian and Lionel Hicks.

Julian Hicks said most of the productions were more than two-thirds financed by a mix of overseas and British investors, including Los Angeles-based collective Finish Line Productions.

Previous work by the company includes big TV dramas Our Friends in The North, Wire in the Blood and Strictly Tango.

Former Yorkshire policeman Taylor said he was delighted two of his novels, Tersias and The Vampyre Quartet, would be filmed where he had set them.
