THE National Coal Mining Museum near Flockton is celebrating National Science Week.
The former pit is offering a free scientific workshop to visitors.
The museum will hold the workshop this Saturday and Sunday before the science week starts next Monday.
The Science Made Simple workshop is a fun, family event which involves visitors finding out about Sir Humphry Davy, inventor of the flame safety lamp.
They will then have chance to investigate different kinds of safe underground light sources themselves.
The museum's usual attractions will also be open.
These include an adventure playground, nature trail, retired pit ponies, diesel and electric locomotives and an underground tour of the mine.
Admission to the museum and workshops is free.
