GOLCAR Scouts have won an award for their camping skills.
The team of two girls and four boys from the 4th Golcar troop triumphed in the competition at Bradley Woods Scout Camp, near Brighouse, which featured teams from Huddersfield South West and Huddersfield East districts.
They were judged on everything they did on the weekend from setting up their tents through to cooking, making camping gadgets out of poles and pieces of string and clearing up at the end of the camp.
Scout leader Craig Ellis and assistant scout leader Suzanne Leach dropped them off at the camp. District leaders then took on the role of judges.
Suzanne said: "The team had to cook a three-course campfire meal using an oven they had made from clay.
"One of the dishes had to be made from pastry which is quite tricky on a campfire!
"They made camp gadgets from poles and string, including a flagpole, a gateway to their tents, a drying rack and a washing-up stand."
On the last day of camp they had a full kit inspection and had to dismantle their tents and clean up quickly and efficiently.
