Land-locked Dewsbury is miles from the coast but all the fun of the seaside came to town for the day.

Longcauseway and Market Place in Dewsbury town centre was transformed into a traditional British seaside resort on Saturday – complete with donkeys, deckchairs and buckets and spades.

Young visitors were also able to enjoy an inflatable pirate slide, watch Punch and Judy shows and enjoy funfair rides.

There was also entertainment including live music and cookery shows.

Dewsbury East councillor Cathy Scott, also a member of Kirklees Council’s Cabinet, said: “Dewsbury on Sea is one of the high points of the year and brings beach entertainment to the centre of town.”

The event is organised by Kirklees Council to boost visitors to the town centre.
