A U-TURN on VAT and sporting season tickets has been welcomed by Huddersfield's MP.

The announcement comes after lobbying from MP Barry Sheerman.

Customs and Excise have reviewed earlier advice and have now ruled that clubs should pay VAT on the money from season ticket sales, as and when they receive instalments from the credit card company that processes the sales.

Before that, the club would have had to foot the whole VAT bill upfront, even though they would not have received payments from the credit card company until the end of the season.

Mr Sheerman said: "This is a huge boost for sporting clubs who sell season tickets. Customs should be praised for their flexibility."
