St George’s Square is the first sight to greet people when they arrive in Huddersfield by train.

But over the years it’s undergone many makeovers ... and not always to everyone’s taste.

It’s a constantly evolving part of town and the frustration remains that the imposing George Hotel remains closed and once more up for sale.

The Grade II listed landmark Victorian building is back on the market for £3m three years after it closed its doors.

So we thought that with the future so uncertain we’d look back at the square over the decades to see just how it has changed.
