A POLICE officer was the winner of the third annual Stadium Triathlon.

Sgt John Levick, who is based at Holmfirth police station, beat 18 competitors in the event at the Stadium Health and Fitness Club.

The Stadium Triathlon involves people swimming 20 lengths of the 25 metre pool, cycling 10km on studio bikes then running either two or four miles along an all-terrain course.

The run took competitors along the Riverside Way and up St Andrew's Road back to the club.

Sgt Levick completed the course in 51 minutes and 31 seconds.

He competes in gruelling Iron Man events. A Master Swimmer, he used the stadium event as a warm-up to a competition in Austria.

The fastest woman was fitness instructor and personal trainer Jane Oates, who crossed the finish line in 58 minutes and 27 seconds.

The runner-up was Bev Scotland with 64 minutes 20 seconds.

The event was organised by gym manager Marc Hampshire and fitness instructor Simon Courtney.

Simon, who won the event last year, came second out of the male competitors this year with a time of 55 minutes 32 seconds.

Marc said: "It was a fantastic competition. This year we had every sort of participant from serious Iron Man competitors to recreational exercisers wanting to give themselves a challenge.

Marc Hampshire will be presenting trophies to the winners on Wednesday .
