A MAN is preying on the elderly in a series of burglaries in Mirfield, Liver- sedge and Leeds.

One of the reported incidents was at Spring Valley Close, Littletown, Liversedge, on June 23.

In each case, the man says he is visiting a neighbour, but they won't be back for 30 to 45 minutes.

He then asks if he can come into the victim's house to wait.

He is then alleged to steal some of their property.

In each of the incidents the suspect is described as being more than 6ft tall, aged between 35 and 50 and with dark hair.

A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Anyone visited by a cold caller should use their door chain and question the caller thoroughly.

"If you in any doubt whatsoever never allow them into your home," she said.

"If someone is genuinely seeking business they will be only too happy to provide identification," the spokeswoman added.

"They will not mind if you call the company to check, while they remain outside your home behind a locked door."
