A criminal who fled court before being sentenced has been imprisoned.

Nicholas Leonard, of Fernside Avenue in Almondbury , appeared in custody at Kirklees Magistrates Court , which he left before his case had been concluded on July 20.

Leonard, 35, was then due to be sentenced for committing two common assaults, two thefts of a razor and a bottle of champagne and failing to attend a drug assessment.

He was sentenced to 26 weeks in jail by lead magistrate John Woocy.
