WEST Yorkshire Crown Prosecution service has been handed a "good" rating by Government inspectors.

Inspectors visited the area last year and recognised that the area has been at the forefront of important national Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) initiatives and praised it for strong management and leadership.

The CPS, which manages cases in both Magistrates' and Crown Courts, was handed an "excellent" rating for its handling of sensitive cases such as child abuse and hates crimes.

Chief Crown Prosecutor Neil Franklin said: "This was a robust inspection carried out after a period of major change.

"I am delighted that the inspectors have recognised the good work done providing first class support to victims and witnesses."
