EMERGENCY and transport staff were honoured for their work during the July bomb attacks.

Staff from the Metropolitan, City and British Transport Police forces; London Fire Brigade, the bus and Tube services; the London Ambulance and Air Ambulance Services and the receiving hospitals of Guys and St Thomas's, St Mary's, Royal Free, Great Ormond Street, University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital all attended a thank you ceremony at City Hall.

Prime Minster Tony Blair sent a message, which was read out.

News footage and newly recorded messages from Londoners, expressing their appreciation, was played.

London Mayor Ken Livingstone said: "The thank you event was held to express the gratitude of all Londoners to the emergency service and transport workers, who showed extraordinary courage in coming to the aid of everyone immediately affected on July 7."

The attacks by four suicide bombers - all from West Yorkshire - killed 52 people and injured hundreds.

The bomb gang was led by Mohammed Sidique Khan, of Thornhill Lees, and included Jermaine Lindsay, of Rawthorpe.
