A SERVING soldier accused of throwing a missile during Huddersfield Town’s FA Cup tie with Wigan appeared in court yesterday.

Matthew Johnson, 24, of School Lane, Standish, Wigan, stood in the dock at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court to hear he was charged with throwing plastic seating towards the playing area at the John Smith’s Stadium.

But the court heard that the Crown was considering administering an adult caution and dropping the prosecution.

Bench chairman, Wayne Perriman, told the defendant: “It is looking very likely that the police will deal with this by way of a caution.”

The matter was adjourned for three weeks and Johnson was granted unconditional bail.
