A SEX offender was arrested after failing to tell police that he had moved house.

Basharat Vale, of no fixed address, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday in custody.

In 2000, Vale was jailed for eight years following a conviction for a serious sex offence.

As part of his sentence he was ordered to comply with the terms of the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Offenders have to notify police if they change personal details like their address.

However, the 33-year-old admitted that he failed to do so.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said that Vale had been staying at the Alder House Hotel in Batley.

She said that police recently had cause to speak with him following a complaint against him.

When they arrived at the address, they were told that Vale had been told to leave due to the state of his room.

Ms Schofield said: “Since he has left he has failed to register his address with police.

“He is in breach by failing to give this notification.

Vale’s solicitor said that his client had not deliberately tried to slip under the radar.

He said that he genuinely hadn’t had a home to go to but was now staying at an address in Batley with his brother.

Magistrates fined him £65 and ordered him to pay £20 victim surcharge.
