A man once better known for his ability to shift pizzas than weights has won a big silver cup in a bodybuilding competition.

Shanwaz Ahmed, known as ‘Dody’, used to weigh 17.5 stones but he decided to drastically change his lifestyle and shed seven stones in just nine months.

Last year he took third place at the 2013 Natural Physique Association Championships, held in Huddersfield Sports Centre for bodybuilders from across the country.

The 33-year-old, father-of-four, of Birkby, has now enjoyed some more success with Natural Physique Association placing 4th in the middle weight section when the competition was held in Taunton, Somerset.

He said: “I was over the category weight by one pound and giving away nearly a whole stone but still managed a top placing. And I won a beautiful, big silver cup.

Dody, who works for student accommodation provider Unite Students as a service and safety advisor, said he was grateful to The Oracle, a magazine and marketing company which recognised his hard work and determination he has put into achieving his goals and helping others achieve theirs.

He added: “Again this year I did not place in the Yorkshires which then set the fire in my heart to try again do another competition which saw me travel down to Taunton and competing again.

“Coming home a winner was really emotional for me as my wife, Shabana, had just had serious surgery on her neck and this had a massive impact on my preparation this year.

“But had it not been for her none of this would have been possible. I love her so much she is just as much a champion as I am.

“The Oracle team then awarded me with an outstanding achievement award which just blew me away a was absolutely shocked.

“An amazing trophy and this just made my year. A big thank you to Mr Mufti and Bilal Latif from The Oracle, and my awesome wife Shabana.”
