Two Huddersfield food businesses have struck gold – and how!

Paddock and Holmfirth butcher Sharland’s, and the Bradley-based Villa Farm Shop, both won a clutch of top awards for their homemade pork products.

Villa Farm Shop landed six gold and one silver at the north-west regional British Pork Executive Roadshow in Bolton.

It picked up gold for its thick and thin pork sausages, its pork and chorizo sausages, its gammon, its sweet home-cured back bacon and its smoked bacon. Judges also awarded the farm shop silver for its pork and black pudding sausages.

Meanwhile, Sharland’s won five gold awards in the same competition for its Yorkshire dry cured mild smoked bacon, its sweet dry-cured gammon, its Yorkshire dry-cured back bacon, its speciality sausage and pork pies – which were given 98 out of 100.
