THE father of a Batley soldier killed in Iraq is calling for an end to the conflict.

Peter Brierley told Huddersfield's Stop The War Coalition that people needed to show they were against the situation in Iraq.

Mr Brierley's son, Shaun, was killed in a road accident in March, 2003.

The 28-year-old father-of-one was in 212 Signal Squadron.

He had previously been stationed in Germany, Yugoslavia, Oman and Poland.

Mr Brierley urged people at the meeting to join a march taking place in London next Saturday.

He said: "The more people who are on this march the more the Government will have to take notice.

"The Government says the British public is not against this war. But a huge physical presence will prove they are.

"It is not just people in this country who will be protesting, but around the world in 200 cities, including Baghdad and Basra."

Mr Brierley will be leading a march and addressing a rally in Stockholm, Sweden.

Coalition group organiser David Green said there were "many reasons to continue to protest against the war and occupation of Iraq".

He added: "People are dying. More than 100,000 Iraqis, more than 2,000 US troops and 103 British troops.

"The troops should be brought home now.

"We want no more families to suffer the grief and anguish that the Brierleys have."
