Marsden’s dog dirt controversy has taken a new twist – with the appearance of graffiti daubed on a wall.

Thoughtless dog owners who refuse to clean up after their pets have caused a stink in the village.

Now some exasperated local has taken drastic steps to get the message across painting ‘No Dog Muck’ on a stone wall at Tunnel Edge, off Ainsley Lane.

Keen photographer Keith Hopkinson, 33, took this picture of a sheep dog pondering the message.

Freelance chef Keith said: “Dog fouling is a bit of a problem in Marsden and it’s a real sore point with some.

“I was out with my camera and came across the graffiti.

“As I was taking pictures this dog just wandered over and it was a picture I had to take.”

The Examiner reported last week how Marsden FC had banned dogs from its fields because of fouling.

Colne Valley Tory councillor Donna Bellamy also called for residents to name and shame anyone who left dog mess behind.

Keith published his picture on a Marsden Facebook page and many people were as angry about the graffiti as the dog mess.

Janet Robinson wrote: “It will take a lot longer for that to fade than for a pile of doggie doos to decompose.

“(It’s) vandalism, and done deliberately by someone who does not really care for the environment and, no, I do not own a dog.”

Matt Brierley said: “Well done whoever wrote that. Clearly a lot of thought has gone into it.

“A lovely large and probably immovable blemish on our landscape. What exactly have you achieved?”

Richard Clay added: “I’m thinking it’s a warning!

“So beware all you non dog poo pickeruppers, the Marsden Banksy is on to you!
