WE'VE had leaves on the line and the wrong kind of snow.

Now the latest blow to rail services in the Huddersfield area is sheep on the line.

Travellers using the Sheffield to Huddersfield service faced long delays late yesterday, after a flock of wandering sheep blocked the line.

The sheep were spotted on the line between Silkstone Common and Denby Dale. The 17.08 train from Sheffield was forced to a halt several times.

Eventually, staff at Denby Dale station were able to round up the flock and shepherd the frightened sheep off the line and up a steep, tree-clad banking.
