ARTISTIC youngsters in Shelley are celebrating.

The pupils at Shelley First School have been awarded their second Artsmark Gold Award.

It is a national scheme run by the Arts Council recognising art education in schools, who are also encouraged to involve the community.

Shelley head teacher Deborah Knowles said: "Only a few hundred schools get the gold award and we are delighted to have received it for a second time.

"It recognises the progressive work we do with our art education programme and is a tribute to the hard work of the pupils and the staff."

Huddersfield artist Mary Walker has been helping the children celebrate the award with a special week-long arts project.

The pupils have studied Australia and New Zealand and produced a variety of works.
