PLANS for a teenager shelter in Dalton have been withdrawn after residents voiced worries.

The "mushroom" shelter or "pod" was to go in Wood Street recreation ground, alongside a play area and basketball court.

But Ali Stopher of the Dram steering group, which is regenerating the Dalton, Rawthorpe and Moldgreen area with Government cash, said people had voiced some concerns about the plans.

She said local people had expressed some reservations about the shelter and wanted more consultation.

They said it would cause teenagers to congregate in the area.

Ms Stopher said that because of this the planning application to Kirklees Council had been withdrawn. But it may be re-submitted later, after more talks.
